Introduction
Generation Alpha—children born roughly from 2010 onwards—are growing up in a world where the internet is the natural environment and where TikTok has often replaced evening reading. They speak differently from their parents and move in a world of memes, emojis, abbreviations, and trends that change faster than the weather. And because of that, their language can sometimes be hard for older generations to understand.
So let’s take a look at a short Generation Alpha glossary, so you don’t get lost in their world of abbreviations, expressions, and viral internet slang.
Glossary
„Rizz“
Short for “charisma.” When someone has “rizz,” it means they can charm—especially the opposite sex. Example: “That guy really has rizz, everyone’s into him.”
„I’m dead“
Used to mean “that’s so funny I’m dead (from laughing).” Example: “Did you see that fall?”
„Slay“
When someone does something really well or looks perfect. Example: “Your outfit totally slays today!”
„NPC“
Short for “Non-Playable Character”—originally from video games. Used for people who seem “robotic,” without opinions or original behavior. Example: “He’s a total NPC, he just stood there and said nothing.”
„Cap / No cap“
“Cap” means a lie; “no cap” means I’m telling the truth. Example: “This shirt cost me two hundred, no cap.”
„Main character energy“
When someone acts like they’re the protagonist in a movie—confident, stylish, dramatic. Example: “I went to the cinema alone yesterday—full main character energy.”
„Sigma male“
A man who doesn’t care about social norms, is independent, and “doesn’t need” others. Often used ironically. Example: “He gets up at 4 a.m. and eats only rice. Sigma male behavior.”
„Snitch“
Someone who tattles or reveals something confidential. Example: “Who told the teacher we cheated? Who was the snitch?!”
,,W“
“W” means “win”—victory, success. Example: “He won that contest! W!”
,,I’m melting“
A reaction to something cringe or extremely cute. Example: “I saw a puppy… I’m melting.”
Conclusion
The language of Generation Alpha is lively, fast-changing, and often influenced by social media, memes, gaming culture, and globalization. Many expressions arise spontaneously; others are borrowed from English. Even though it can seem like a completely different language at first glance, at its core it’s still about the desire to express emotions, attitudes, or simply to have fun.
